Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift is made up of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are linked to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus to be able to keep the workers safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile that is great for concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These equipment use either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly made for uneven surfaces. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam which raises both vertically and diagonally. This unit has a small work platform that houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket that is outfitted with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to lift a work platform vertically into the air. Normally, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These machinery provide an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is really important to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
