Propane cylinders take up little space and they could be kept either outside of a facility or inside of a storage area. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does require knowledge of safety standards like for example the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA and also requires operator training in order to be conducted safely.
Compared to the electric lift truck, internal combustion forklifts are faster and easier to refuel. Nonetheless, the IC engine does create polluting emissions and are really noisy.
NARROW-AISLE LIFT TRUCKS
The Class 2 forklifts includes many types of lift truck which are particularly designed to be used in narrow aisles. The regular storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily enables a counterbalanced lift truck to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Normally, the very narrow aisles are about 5.5 to 6 feet wide, while narrow aisles are 8 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized lift trucks that can put away loads without any turning at all or that are small enough to turn on a tight radius.
The three most common narrow aisle lift trucks are the turret trucks, order pickers and reach trucks. The differences among these trucks are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Lift Trucks
The traditional reach truck is the original narrow-aisle lift truck and these machinery do not need a counterweight. They are also small enough to turn around in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms which extend in front of the lift trucks. Nevertheless, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms can prevent the trucks from getting close enough to the storage rack to deposit and retrieve cargo. To be able to overcome this situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is actually a reach truck that is designed with a telescoping device. This enables forks to concisely and easily reach into storage areas.
The best environment for narrow aisle lift trucks is a place which has clean floors, good lighting and good traffic flow, well-maintained floor, along with sufficient turning space.
