Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Forklifts need a proper maintenance program to help increase the machine's lifespan and is an important factor in allowing the machinery to function safely and effectively. Completing regular forklift check ups and doing preventive maintenance regularly will help to guarantee the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.
Daily Checklist
In any forklift maintenance program, the daily checklist is an invaluable tool to have. These checklists would document any possible problems. They are required by the OSHA or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The daily checklists can also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Drivers are required to complete the inspection from the start of their shift. If any major problems are found, the forklift could not be used until the problem has been fixed.
Safety and Maintenance Go Hand-in-Hand
In the United States, there are around 100 deaths related to forklift mishaps and statistic show that almost 20,000 individuals are seriously injured as well. This number represents 54 people per day, 7 days a week, for the entire year. Many of these mishaps can be prevented easily if the forklift had been properly serviced and maintained. In several circumstances, it may seem like a cost savings to skip or delay routine maintenance, although, these savings would pale in comparison to the cost of a single accident.
Things to be Serviced
The manufacturers owner manual would include a recommended maintenance schedule. Schedules will vary depending on every manufacturer and every model of forklift. Every schedule would consist of various basic things. Like for example, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil must be replaced sometimes. Hydraulic levels must be checked too. Be sure to inspect hoses for any signs of cracking. Additional things include the electrical systems, the brakes and the transmission of the forklift.
