History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was originally established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid in 1937, when the Salzgitter Group acquired a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. In 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years. At present, SMAG is the market leader in the world, using grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
